Domicile Law and Demographic Change
In this image the Kashmir Reading Room evokes a painful thought that is on the mind of every Kashmiri right now. They want to erase our history, our identity and our resistance. They are coming for our land, our jobs, our resources and our lives.
The Indian government has initiated its project of dispossessing Kashmiris from our lands, employment and rights that we won for ourselves after a hard-fought struggle against tyranny and feudalism.
Now Indians who have resided in J&K for 15 years or have studied for seven years or appeared in examinations for class 10th or 12th can be eligible for the grant of a domicile certificate granting them rights to employment and land in Kashmir.
They are coming for our land, our jobs, our resources and our lives. And while the terrors we face would intimidate any normal person, our inter-generational struggle has taught us perseverance and steadfastness. We will resist until the last of you has left our home.
