Who Are JKLPP?

Jammu & Kashmir Law & Public Policy is an independently run organisation dedicated to assessing the legal, political, foreign affairs and international engagements of the former state of Jammu & Kashmir, so that the region can be peacefully and democratically reinstated as a sovereign entity.

We are a group of working professionals – lawyers, doctors, academics, researchers, activists and journalists – based in different parts of the world; working to raise awareness of the political, legal and everyday struggles Kashmiris face.

What We Do

We work with a number of civil society groups to organise discussions on Kashmir as well as lectures at various universities on the legal, political and social history of the conflict in Kashmir. Our areas of engagement, research and publication focus on law, governance, policy and social issues affecting Jammu and Kashmir.

Our work also includes documentation of the history of the movement for freedom in Jammu & Kashmir to ensure that the memory of every stage of the struggle is preserved and protected from erasure and distortion.

Through our Kashmir Reading Room, we work towards developing a repository of educational material for awareness on political and humanitarian issues of the people of the Kashmir region via educational campaigns, seminars, workshops, demonstrations and art.

  • National and International political lobbying for Jammu & Kashmir to regain its sovereign entity status.

  • Establishing contact with foreign policy institutions to create a strategy centering the interests of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.

  • In-depth reports that empower our followers with a greater understanding of the wider social, political, economical and cultural context in Kashmir today.

  • We write and share opinion pieces and published news articles on key issues.

  • Attend and organise events and media discussions that raise awareness to the situation in Kashmir.

  • We create and share original artwork, poetry, music and other forms of activist art that highlight the situation in Jammu & Kashmir.

The Kashmir Dispute

“We shall meet again, in Srinagar,

by the gates of the Villa of Peace,

our hands blossoming into fists

till the soldiers return the keys

and disappear.”
