Video: TRT World Interview on India’s Settler Colonialism in Kashmir
Kashmiri lawyer Mirza Saaib Beg, in conversation with TRT World – “Throughout this year we have been responding to one crisis after the other as India feeds its population a rhetoric of moral superiority that allows them to wage war on the aberrant Kashmiri as well as the putative directives of Islam.
First we were not allowed to communicate with our families for weeks, then we faced mass arrests, judicial apathy, media ban, torture and killings. The state has engineered anxiety and shock to make us wonder if they will commit mass killings or go to war with Pakistan and/or China. With the rapid legislative changes making way for disenfranchisement, forcible transfer of population, we fear that our home will never be the same again. And the explosive tension in Kashmir will lead to some catastrophe that will push us towards more conflict.
There is a pattern around the world right now. Libya has been at war for 7 years now. Yemen’s has been at war for 6 years. Afghanistan has been in conflict since Soviet invasion in 1979. Somalis have been fighting for 40 years. it appears that world leaders and international organisations are either not interested in or incompetent at arriving at peaceful resolution. In Kashmir we fear that we are going to be added to the oblivion of statistics of destruction around the world.”
